WMR Contractors were appointed as Principal Contractor for the roof replacement of Sunnyside Cottages, located within the A-listed buildings of Culzean country park. The project required close monitoring and approval from the National Trust for Scotland to ensure material sources and adaptations to the structure aligned with heritage preservation standards.

The project, which began in September 2024, included a comprehensive intrusive roof survey to report on the extent of corrosion, a full drone survey, and the careful removal of existing slates for re-use by the National Trust for Scotland. WMR was responsible for the complete replacement of the roof slates, timber repairs (including roof substrates, fascia, and soffits), and gutter and rainwater downpipe repairs. The team also rerouted incoming power supply cables and inspected and replaced lead work and chimneys. This project, which had a 12-week construction period, involved the restoration and part-retention of Victorian decorative detailing around the dormer cheeks and fasciae. All trades were carried out in-house, ensuring quality control and project continuity.

Through meticulous planning and a strong focus on both preservation and high-end modern design, WMR Contractors successfully completed the comprehensive refurbishment of the historic church. The company’s expertise in handling complex refurbishments within historically significant buildings, delivering a dynamic and functional commercial hub while respecting its unique heritage.
