WMR Contractors was appointed as Principal Contractor for the refurbishment of the B-listed Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland, located in Glasgow’s West End. Working in close collaboration with Historic Scotland, the local authority, the project was delivered within a tight eight-week programme, aiming to preserve the historic character of the church while upgrading key elements for continued use and safety.

The project presented unique challenges, including the presence of dry rot within the structure. WMR undertook careful investigation and targeted treatment to prevent further deterioration, while meticulously restoring original timber floors and pews. Traditional methods were used for lath and plaster repairs to maintain the building's historic integrity.

To safely access high-level areas for decorative and structural repairs, internal scaffolding was erected. A major part of the project involved the sensitive integration of modern mechanical and electrical systems, carefully planned to avoid visual impact and comply with conservation requirements. Given the church’s active role in the community, WMR managed the project efficiently to minimize disruption, ensuring it returned to full use promptly.

Through careful planning and a high level of craftsmanship, WMR Contractors successfully completed the comprehensive refurbishment of the historic church. The company’s expertise in balancing preservation with modern upgrades, combined with their ability to navigate complex challenges on a tight deadline, ensured the successful delivery of this project.
